Rumble Magazine

Submission Guidelines

Word limit for works of micro fiction is 500 words, though we sometimes allow a little leeway if we really like the writing. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but we reserve exclusive publishing rights for the run of the issue. If after that time you wish to have your story removed from our archives, simply send us an e-mail.

Because we allow simultaneous submissions it is your responsibility to contact us immediately if your story has been accepted elsewhere.

Previously published works are strictly VERBOTEN!

As of January 2009 exceptions are granted to those who have published their work on a personal weblog or website.

Submissions are no longer limited to one story or poem per issue. As of August 2006, you may submit 3 stories and/or three poems in a 30 day period. We are never closed to submissions.

Please format your stories in paragraphs for e-consumption with double line-spacing between them. Use proper capitalization unless you are Kurt Vonnegut or Thomas Wolfe (hint: you are not). Cut and paste your submission into the body of an e-mail, or attach as an .rtf file. No .doc or .docx files. Please type SUBMISSION in caps in the subject line of your e-mail.

As of January 2009 we are also considering submissions of HIGH RESOLUTION photographs for possible inclusion in Rumble Magazine.

We very occasionally write book reviews. Mostly for writers who have appeared in our magazine multiple times. You may inquire.

Please include a short bio with your submission. If your submission is chosen it will appear beneath your published work. We will also include your website or weblog link, plus links to published stories if you include them, and they will remain permanent links on the rumble site when the issue is archived.

We politely request that you use Microsoft Word or a similar program to check your story or poem for spelling and grammar errors before submitting.

Unfortunately Rumble cannot pay for publication rights. We are a very small web magazine and generate no income. We strongly believe quality writing deserves more recognition than a spot on a web page, but at this time that is all we can offer.
