rumble

This is the archived version of the October - November 2005 issue. The current issue can be found here.

UPDATE 12/05/05: Due to some chaos with our emails we may have failed to contact all the authors submitting for the last period. We apologize and ask that if you submitted something and haven't heard from us just shoot us an e-mail so we can straighten things out.

UPDATE 11/14/05: The Hypertext experiment End Fraction by Cyberpunk author Kenji Siratori is now online. I'm continuing work on the Micro Fiction site.

Welcome to the eleventh issue of rumble.

Once again we are a bit late with this issue and we have no excuse. We certainly hope you feel the wait was worth it, and we think we have a good issue for you. The contents include 4 micros, two poems, and a well-composed photo portrait we think you'll like. In addition, a book review of Drivers by Nathan Leslie.

But that's not all.

In the works are a Micro Fiction mini site, a side project which will draw together some general information on the sub-genre of Micro Fiction, and hopefully help firm up the definition as well as supplying links to Micro Fiction resources and websites.

Most people use the terms Flash Fiction, Quick Fiction, and Micro Fiction interchangeably, and this is understandable. But at rumble, we are feeling the need to further define and set apart the micro form as distinct, and so the idea for the mini site was born. Is there a difference? Flash Fiction in general refers to works of up to 1500, maybe even 2000 words, while our definition of Micro specifies a maximum length of 500 words, enough of a difference, we think, to make the distinction.

We are also working with Kenji Siratori on a hypertext presentation of one of his short works. So we strongly encourage you to check the rumble site over the next few weeks for new content.

So that's it. Thanks for stopping by and supporting rumble. Any thoughts you have on the mini site idea? Resources? Pass them along by e-mailing us at:
