The Cycloptic Cat

In college I used to feed scraps to a cycloptic cat. Not only was this cat missing an eye but also had two large saber-toothed teeth. It was as if a long dormant fragment of DNA revived to give him those long fangs—some odd throwback from when domestic cats were tigers or jaguars. And he had a strange cry that sounded more like a bleating lamb than a meowing cat.

Despite his horrifically frightening one-eyed big tooth look and weird mewl, he was the sweetest animal. Though the first time he wrapped around your legs you feared getting some one-eye disease, or that suddenly he'd puncture you with those fangs and kick at you with his back paws like cats do sometimes. But no, he was always gentle. He just needed love. Love that he didn't often get from being a freaky one-eyed big-toothed and pathetic crying cat
