Welcome to the twelfth issue of rumble. We find ourselves, much to our surprise, living in the weird and futuristic year 2006. So where's our rocket packs?
Holy Smokes! Is this issue ever late! This issue is so late it's not even funny. But we have some good stories, and poetry and junk, so let's just forge ahead and pretend everything's as it should be, and that this issue has arrived promptly and in good health.
Yes, let's.
Bob Thurber, whose story "No Harm Done" appears in this issue, has written an excellent article titled Anatomy Of A Micro Fiction. Why not check it out? It's a great resource for authors serious about the micro form. Highly recommended by those of us who have the awesome power to recommend things.
In an amusing aside, we heard the famous and very tiny Bob Costas use the term New Wave Exhuberance in describing Shaun White's gold-medal winning performance at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. New Wave Exhuberance? Is that the best you got, Bob? Let us tell you something, people. NBC is paying this guy billions of dollars to say stuff like this. This should encourage all of us. If a major network can put a rancid phrase like that in Bob's mouth, our own efforts, humble as they may be, look so much better by comparison.
Did you know? The New Absurdist website has undergone an extensive redesign and reformatting. Please stop by and take a look.
That's it for now, faithful readers. If you're interested in the progress of the Micro Fiction mini-site then check back here for updates. We haven't added new content to the site since it went online but we hope to now that this issue is finished.
